Bringing the Year of Consecrated Life to an end in Birkenhead
With the Theme “Rejoice” the closing Mass for the Year of Consecrated Life took place in St. Anne’s Church, Rockferry on Saturday 24th October at 12noon. This was for the Diocese of Shrewsbury and was attended by many sisters, lay consecrated, parishioners and friends of the Sisters. Concelebrated Mass with Bishop Brian Noble as the chief celebrant together with seven other priests was a very prayerful event. During the Homily Bishop Brian said that the Diocese owed a great debt of gratitude to the many Religious, both female and male who had done so much to build up the faith down the years and although less in numbers some are still doing so. He thanked them for their witness to faithfulness.
Sisters from four Congregations, including ourselves R.S.C’s put up displays in the Parish Hall before Mass showing a history of our presence here in the Diocese. Sisters of Charity are 125 years in the Shrewsbury Diocese. While afternoon tea was served in the Hall after Mass many had a chance to trace in pictures and posters the history of our presence, and many commented on the displays. We also gave out leaflets and prayer cards of Mary Aikenhead.
Because Mass was at noon only a few were able to join five of us, Sisters of Charity. The photos attached including the Cake show part of the day and the celebration cake! We hope to have a local event in Advent with the Cenacle Sister who is Vicar for Religious – more will follow then.
