Sr Rita Dawson RSC declared a Freeman of West Dunbartonshire and receives an MBE
On Thursday 10 December 2015, at a Civic Reception held in her honour in Clydebank Town Hall, Sister Rita Dawson RSC was formally declared a Freeman of West Dunbartonshire by Provost Douglas McAllister and also formally received her MBE from Lord Lieutenant Rear Admiral Mike Gregory.
The Freeman award was given in recognition of her distinguished service and commitment to the community of West Dunbartonshire through her tireless efforts to secure the long term future of the St Margaret of Scotland Hospice in Clydebank; for her contribution to improving palliative care locally and nationally; and in honour of her excellent leadership, devotion, compassion and the respect maintained for her; and for her services as Depute Lord Lieutenant.
The MBE was awarded by Her Majesty in April 2015 for services to nursing, and recognises the “achievements in care for the terminally ill residents in the hospice which have been brought about almost entirely by the wonderful and selfless dedication of this remarkable woman”.
